Really good Cantonese restaurant. Not that authentic as in Guangzhou but it’s the best I’ve tried in Europe. The roasted duck had crispy skin and delicious sauce. The Cantonese boiled chicken was very fragrance with fresh chopped ginger. The savory porridge was so good and the Cheong fan was very smooth. It was just impressive.

Good taste and affordable price! And there is free soup and free fruits! What a nice price! The only drawback is that the fried noodles is a little too oily for me! But other than that, all super nice!

Located in the heart of Barcelona’s Eixample district, Chao Yue offers an authentic taste of Cantonese cuisine that stands out in Spain. This Chinese restaurant on Carrer d'Aragó specializes in the rich flavors and delicate textures unique to Southern China’s culinary tradition. Walking into Chao Yue, you immediately sense a genuine atmosphere, supported by attentive service where staff commonly speak Mandarin, Cantonese, and Catalan — a rare and comforting combination for Chinese food lovers abroad.

The menu boasts a wide range of classic Cantonese dishes, with standout items like Tallarines de Arroz Frito con Gambas, Rollos de Arroz de Gamba, and the deeply satisfying 煲仔饭 (clay pot rice). Here, the crispy-skinned roasted duck is a revelation—each bite delivers a perfect balance between crackling skin and a savory, aromatic sauce, echoing traditional Guangzhou flavors but with a locally refined touch. The Cantonese boiled chicken paired with fresh ginger showcases clean, vibrant flavors that feel both comforting and elegant.

The dim sum selection, including Dumplin al Vapor and Empanadillas, reflects authentic preparation methods, with dumplings tender yet flavorful, and fillings that capture the essence of fresh seafood and meat. Chow fan and fried rice dishes come with a subtle depth, enhanced by dark soy sauce that may feel intense to some but remains true to Cantonese standards. The texture of the Cheong Fan is another highlight—silky smooth rice rolls that melt gently on the palate.

One cannot overlook the hospitality here, which enhances the dining experience. Complimentary soup and fresh seasonal fruits round out the meal graciously, adding an unexpected yet delightful finish. Customer reviews frequently mention the exceptional service, where staff members offer thoughtful dish recommendations tailored to party size and taste preferences, ensuring no food goes to waste and every meal feels personalized.

In summary, Chao Yue is a gem for those seeking Cantonese cuisine with both authenticity and subtle local adaptations in Barcelona. The breadth of the menu—from tender roasted meats and fragrant congees to seafood platters and vegetable dishes like 菜心—offers a comprehensive exploration of Cantonese culinary artistry. While some dishes may lean toward a slightly heavier seasoning, the overall quality, taste, and warm service make every visit worthwhile.
